^Am planning to see it today  And the book - I read it very quickly, it was good, but I'm not sure if I'll read the other parts too. I don't know what they're about, but I liked this book partly because of the mistery from the past

The past is included in the next book as well I might add. I am on the last of the books in the triology myself and think it is sad that the author is dead so he can't write any more for me to read.

^I might read the books one day.

For now, I'm reading Eine Frau in Berlin (A woman in Berlin) since yesterday evening, have read half already and it's truly fascinating, though horrible. It's a diary of a german woman, written between 20th April and end of June 1945, and tells about how life looked in besieged, then conquered by Soviets Berlin. It's about hunger, rapes, constant lack of security and almost animalistic will of surviving. So it's definitely not a pleasant book to read, but I highly recommend it to everyone who's even a little interested in WWII theme.

I'm in the mood for light reading recently, so I'm burying myself in Discworld novels again, right now reading (or re-reading, to be specific) Jingo. I just love Pratchett's humor.

Finished it. It was truly fascinating, though sad and unpleasant. It's scary and amazing how personal tragedies, like rapes or deaths of loved people, that are mourned during normal times of peace, are taken as something obvious, when it happens to everyone around too. It's hard to imagine one can want to live so hard, that is able to get rid of rest of one's dignity. But as the quote at the end of the book says "It's too easy to judge others, being safe yourself".

I got and read "Dead Until Dark" and "Living Ded In Dallas" by Charlaine Harris, first 2 books of the cycle on which the True blood series are based.
And it's the first time ever I can say the thing on screen is better than in book  The lame translation is partly to blame, but the books lack the strange, sticky atmosphere of the movie. Also the style it's written in lacks coherency a little.
Sookie is generally less annoying than in a movie  But there's a new thing about her I don't like - on one way she's prude, but on the other she willingly kisses other guys, while being in a relationship with a guy she claims she loves.

I know I'll get shit for this. Always do.. But at the moment I'm currently reading Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith. and I'm hooked.
She stays alot closer to the classic vampire thing though. A cross between classic vamp and twilight vamp.
I recently finished another book by LJ Smith called Dark Visions. (which was not about vampires  )
She's got alot of books out though. I look forward to reading them. :D

dunno if they publishes his books in the us and uk too, but to all the german people i can defenitely recommend:
günther wallraff- ganz unten
günther wallraff- schöne neue welt

he's a great author and he just writes about important stuff we need to change, like racism and stuffl ike that.
i.e. in the first bok i named -ganz unten- he dressed up as a man (ali s.) from turkey because h anted to know how turkish people in germany could cope with the every-day-racism and what kind of work and shelter they actually get.

I'm currently reading 'A covenent with Death' by John Harris. A beautiful, emotionally moving book about the Second World War. It's fantastic and i can't put it down, it's so moving. When you read it you can see yourself in the trenches with them, feel the weariness they feel and the fear, smell the blood and taste the tears (although that might be me as i cry a lot reading this, and i'm not ashamed to admit it  )
And it ends so sadly, amazing read. I highly recommend it.

Dunno why I'm writing this, for I doubt those books were translated to any language other than polish, but I've read for the second time (and reading a book more than once is rare for me) "Sługa Boży" (God's Servant) and "Młot na czarownice" (Hammer of witches) by Jacek Piekara.

These books are 2 first of one of my favourite cycle. Story takes place in alternative world where Jesus Christ came off the cross and punished sinners with sword and fire. The main hero is an intelligent and cynical inquisitor Mordimer Madderdin, very far from being a saint though, cause he's an opportunist, frequent guest of brothels and (same as the author) kinda male shovinist - which surprisingly doesn't bother me at all in this case. Piece of really good writing, including fantasy, detective stories and comedy.
