Currently reading another polish author - Andrzej Ziemiański's "Ucieczka z Festung Breslau" (Escape from Festung Breslau). Happening during the last months of WWII (duuh, I guess you all figured I love reading about that period  ) in my homecity. The main hero is german Abwehra officer, who's trying to solve the case of murders among people transporting the works of art away. He's also secretly cooperating with polish agent in order not to go to russian gulag after the end of the war.
You can call it a detective story taking place in a besieged city. Well written, I quite like it, though there are few things that could be different.

^ I read that, and actually liked it a lot, since it's not (or at least, it wasn't for me when I read it years ago) easy reading.

I'm liking it a lot more than I thought I would, the writing style is quite pleasant to read. (:

Not that I'm close to finishing it, only started with it a few days ago, but it's going to be a "fast" read.

Mhmm, non-cooperating libraries suck. :(

Not that I ever go to the local library, they hardly have anything I like. :P

W. Genacino "The umbrella for this day".

Book is about a man whose occupation is to test expensive and well known brend shoes by walking arround in them. And while he is testing them, he usually notices the strangeness of life, e.g. a boy who is building a cave on his balconee from blankets, old woman whose only aim in her life seems to be watching if the laundry is dry, because she tests it after every five minutes etc. That`s what I liked about this book, that, watching through the eyes of the narrator, all the world seems interesting and unpredictable place with whom it is possible to experiment (As it actually is). In one dinner he suddenly feels ashamed that he does not have so honorable proffesion, so he lies that he is running the life improvement company and says that the majority of people are living just like their lives would be long and rainy day and they by themselves would be the umbrellas for that day.
And after his speech he starts to recieve calls from people who wants to make the appiontment and have consultations about their lives.

I have borrowed The Tale Of The Children Of Húrin by Tolkien (put together by his son), and ah, I love it. I mean, of course it's not as good as The Lord Of The Rings, naturally, and this was various excerpts put together by his son, and I think the reason why I love it is that it reminds me of when I was reading LotR for the first time. But I definitely suggest LotR fans to read it. :)

Finished th book I wrote about in my previous post, then read Piekara's Płomień i krzyż (A flame and a cross), prequel to the story of my favourite inquisitor

Now I'm starting to read JUNGVOLK The Story of a Boy Defending Hitler's Third Reich by Wilhelm Gehlen and Don Gregory. The title says it all - it's memories of a man who was born in nazi Germany and was to be brought up for a perfect nazi citizen.
